Not coincidentally, he was born shortly after the invention of the printing press. When he wanted to make an informed choice about whom he should worship he started his investigations with the Guttenberg Bible (still in print after 555 years).
He read books.
And this opened his eyes to a world of wonder. He was no philosopher or natural scientist or physician, systematically inquiring into the nature of things, he was just curious. Armed with an average intelligence and a life of relative ease, he became an icon in one of those rare moments in history when humanity truly flowered. Interesting times.
So here it is: we want him back.
We want the secretary reading a thriller on the subway to be alive with wonder about Bandung 1956, Madame Mao and the history of the M16 semi-automatic rifle. And why shouldn’t a retired bus driver be fascinated by a book on vaginal birth after cesareans? Or a cheerleader captivated by the Dead Sea Scrolls?
Good books make a difference.

At Curioso Books we aim to publish superior quality books on the widest possible variety of subjects. We believe that good writing should be interesting not only to the few – the specialists – but to the widest possible audience without pandering to cheap, trendy or commercial interests.
Curioso Books is an independent, editorially driven, Canadian publishing company established in 2011. Given the state of book publishing today we believe that the books we publish must be exceptionally good, and that everyone – authors, editors, publishers, book sellers and readers – must work harder and work together to keep this 555 year adventure going.
